TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama School
of Library and Information Studies and University
Libraries will host Dr. Maurice J. Freedman, president of the
American Library Association, on Thursday, April 17 at 4 p.m. for
a presentation on the fourth floor of the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library.
His presentation “Better Salaries for Library Workers”
will be followed by a reception at 4:45 p.m. on the second floor
of the library.
Freedman is the director of the Westchester (N.Y.) Library System
where he manages a cooperative library service agency of approximately
50 staff serving 38 public libraries and a population of 875,000.
He is the publisher of “U*N*A*B*A*S*H*E*D* Librarian,”
which resulted in consulting and delivering speeches in more than
half the states in the United States and in Canada. Freedman has
served as a consultant for libraries in North America, Europe, Africa
and Asia. His most recent job included consulting work for the National
Library of Latvia and their research libraries on the implementation
of information technology.
