TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Rick Funk has been named director of campus
activities at The University of Alabama. Dr. Kathleen Cramer, interim
vice president for student affairs, and Dr. Roger Thompson, assistant
vice president for enrollment management, made the announcement
today.
In his new position, Funk will report jointly to Molly Lawrence,
director of administrative services in the Office of Student Affairs,
and Mary Spiegel, director of undergraduate admissions. He will
be responsible for coordinating numerous campuswide programs and
events for student recruitment and retention.
“Recruiting excellent incoming students and retention of
our current students are top priorities for both Admissions and
Student Affairs,” Cramer said. “We feel that both these
areas will benefit from the support of this new position, and Rick
is well qualified to take on this new role.”
Thompson noted that Funk brings 25 years experience in working
with students to the position. “Rick’s managerial skills
combined with his long-time experience in student affairs and his
familiarity with the University will be great assets, and we look
forward to working with him,” Thompson said.
Among Funk’s responsibilities will be coordination of Homecoming
activities, Kickoff on the Quad, Family Weekend and Honors Week.
He will also help recruit for high school conferences on campus.
Funk served most recently as associate dean of students at UA.

to joining UA, Funk spent 12 years at Penn State, including six
years as coordinator of Greek life and four years as assistant director
of the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership. He also spent
