TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Jitro: Czech Children’s Choir will be
on The University of Alabama campus on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30
p.m. to delight audiences in the Moody Music Concert Hall as the
final production of the 2002-2003 Celebrity Series.
Jitro -- the Czech word means daybreak -- has been an international
presence in the world of choral ensembles since 1977 and continues
to present its repertoire of multi-genre, multi-lingual vocal music
to audiences worldwide.
These girls are more than just a concert choir. Jitro is a structured
organization of 500 children in four preparation departments, of
which only the best 25 can be seen and heard in the auditorium.
They spend hours learning notes and perfect pitch in group rehearsals
and then spend more time practicing on their own.
The children range in age from 5 to 17, and the choir has been
visiting the United States since 1990. The group is conducted by
Jit'i Skopal and is accompanied by piano player Michal Chrobak.
Jirto collaborates regularly with radio and television and publishes
records, compact discs and cassettes. The repertoire includes works
of vocal polyphony, oratorios, spirituals and folk song arrangements.
Single ticket prices are $22 and $15 for general audiences and
$7 for students with valid IDs. For ticket information, or an immediate
credit card purchase, call the School of Music Box Office at 205/348-7111.
