UA's African American Graduate Student Association to Present 'Reflections in Black'

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama African-American Graduate Student Association will present its first performing arts program “Reflections in Black: The Spirit of Togetherness,” on Monday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theater.

The program will trace black history and culture from Africa to America, while recognizing the periods of slavery, the abolition of slavery, segregation, civil rights, and the present.

Students from UA, Stillman College, and the community will represent each period through a variety of artistic forms such as song, dance and poetry.

“This program pays tribute to those who have sacrificed for us,” said AAGSA president Antonia Mead. “Without their contributions we would not be here today.”

The event is free and open to the public.
