TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama National
Alumni Association (NAA) recently chose the recipients of the
2003 Distinguished Alumni Awards and Alumni Student Awards. The
recipients will be recognized at the annual Alumni Weekend Luncheon
on Saturday, March 29, at noon in the Bryant Conference Center.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards acknowledge and honor an alumna
and alumnus of UA for their contributions to the University and
the NAA. Selections for the awards are based on loyalty and service
to the University and NAA, character and personal life, professional
achievement or success in chosen endeavor and community service
on a local and/or state or national level.
The 2003 Distinguished Alumna Award winner is Alma Gates Scroggins
of Atlanta, Ga., and the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus Award
winner is Barrett Clinton Shelton Jr. of Decatur.
The Alumni Student Awards recognize and honor students in the
senior class. The students have excelled in academics and extracurricular
activities, shown strength of character and maturity and displayed
exceptional hospitality toward guests and friends of the University.
The recipients of the 2003 Alumni Student Awards are Kana Anne
Ellis of Northport; Laura J. Medders of Thomasville, Ga.; and Andrew
C. Todd of Piedmont.
The 2003 Alumni Outstanding Senior Award winners are Sarah
B. Adair of Hartselle; Blakely Palmer Dueitt of Louisville, Ky.;
Allison J. Kellogg of Madison, Miss.; Holly Michelle Morris of Grand
Rapids, Mich.; Robin Marie Preussel of Huntsville; Ashley Fallon
Ragsdale of Huntsville; Deborah T. Sodeke of Auburn; Patrick S.
Hollingsworth of Baton Rouge, La.; Michael Weston Luther of Dawson;
Nabeel Ahmed Memon of Tuscaloosa; Tyrance Story of Birmingham
