TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama School of Law Public
Interest Institute (PII) is hosting a Family Fair day on Saturday,
March 29, from 1-4 p.m. on the lawn behind the Law School.
The YMCA, Easter Seals, the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority and other
community groups will provide transportation from all Tuscaloosa
Housing Authority developments to the fair.
“I thought the fair would be a good idea because my experience
with the Law School's Public Interest Institute has shown me that
there are a wide variety of public services available for people
in need. The purpose of the fair is to bring people together with
representatives from each of these organizations so that everyone
will have a chance to learn more about services available in Tuscaloosa.
“There will also be lots of games and other fun activities
for the kids so that families can just relax and enjoy the afternoon
together,” said Alan Miller, a UA Law School student who developed
the idea for the Family Fair.
The PII expects more than 600 local residents to attend the fair.
The event will feature games and activity booths for children, provided
by some 23 Law School organizations. The fair will offer legal and
public service information booths from 32 community organizations.
Participating organizations include Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Smart
Minds, Girl Scouts, Caring Hands Hospice and others. Booths will
include a caterpillar obstacle course, moonwalk, TCBY on Wheels,
inflatable climbing wall, duck pond, basketball shoot and more.
Created in 2000, the PII has about 450 of the Law School's 550
students involved in at least one PII program each year.
Rain location for the event is the Ferguson Center.
