TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama will welcome students
and their families to the fourth annual UA Family
Weekend, Sept. 19-21.
Registration will begin Friday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. at the Ferguson
Center.
Activities planned for Friday include:
- UA Class Experience: Attend class with your
student and meet some of our respected faculty.
- Paul W. Bryant Museum: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tour the
museum and peruse 100 years of UA football history.
- Quality Forum Six: 2-4 p.m. in Ferguson Center.
Find out why UA is ranked among the Top 50 Public Universities.
- Intermediate Honors Ceremony: 2:30 p.m. This
ceremony honors the academic achievement of junior-level students.
Criteria for selection include students who were enrolled at UA
spring 2001, who have completed 60 hours at UA, and who comprise
the top five percent of their UA colleges based on their UA GPAs.
- Alabama Museum of Natural History: 3:30-4 p.m., encore
presentation, 4:15-4:45 p.m. Enjoy a living history presentation
inside Smith Hall's Grand Gallery as Rosa Newman Hall portrays
Mrs. Jenny Garland Smith, daughter of Dr. Landon Garland, a University
president, and wife of geologist Eugene Allen Smith, whom she
married in 1871.
- Deans' Receptions in Academic Areas: 4-5:30 p.m.
All undergraduate academic deans will host families in their areas
across campus.
- First Friday for Graduate Student Families: 5 p.m.,
Ferguson Center. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and live jazz music
while mingling with fellow graduate students and their families.
Activities for young children will be available.
- Dine at the Ferguson Center Fresh Food Company: 6-9
p.m. Receive 10 percent off your meal with your family
weekend ID tag.
- Mike Super Magic Show: 8 p.m., Moody Music
Building. University Programs presents the magic of Mike Super.
Saturday’s activities include:
- REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN: 8 a.m.-noon in the Student Recreation
Center (SRC).
- Meet the Deans in the SRC: 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Academic deans and/or their representatives will be available
to meet families and answer questions about their respective UA
colleges.
- President's Address in the SRC: 10:30-11:30 a.m.
UA President Robert E.Witt speaks to University of Alabama families,
who will have an opportunity to ask questions.
- Picnic Lunch on the SRC Pool Deck: 11:30 a.m.-12:30
p.m. Grab a Bama Dining box lunch and then venture outside
to enjoy the new outdoor swimming pool.
- College of Education Showcase: 1-3 p.m. Graves
Hall
- Kickoff on the Quad: 2-6 p.m. (or four hours before
kickoff). Bring your appetite and enjoy all the pre-game
festivities on the Quad.
- Get Out of the Heat Hospitality Suite: 1-4 p.m.
Stop by Doster Hall's J.J. Doster Café to have refreshments
and meet UA staff and students. Family Weekend name tags are required
for entrance.
- Freshman Forum Reception: 1-2 p.m. Families
of students selected for Freshman Forum are invited to attend
a special recognition reception.
- Pictorial History of The University of Alabama:
Dr. Richard Livingston brings The University of Alabama's institutional
history alive for you -- its architecture, history, and people.
The Civil War burning and rebuilding information will give you
vivid insight into our campus history.
- Big-Screen Telecast of Alabama vs. Northern Illinois:
6 p.m. (tentative) in the Ferguson Center. Enjoy all
the festivities associated with Alabama football at the Ferguson
Center. Remember: The game will not be telecast locally, so if
you don't go to the game, come to the Ferguson Center instead.
- Sororities and Fraternities Open House: Many
sororities and fraternities will host members, new members, and
families for refreshments during Alabama football telecasts provided
especially for Family Weekend participants.
Sunday’s activities include:
- Campus ministries will host religious services.
- Classic Film at the Bama Theatre.
- Commons Dining Hall Sunday Brunch: Spend some
quality time with your student at the Commons Dining Hall in Mary
Burke Hall. Enjoy great food and catch up on all that has happened
during the fall semester.
- Sororities and Fraternities Open House: Many
sororities and fraternities will host new members and their families.
