Sarah Moody Gallery Brings Ma'Cille's Museum of Miscellanea to UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Sarah Moody Gallery of Art presents “Inspiration/Transformation: 14 Photographers Respond to Ma’Cille’s Museum of Miscellanea” beginning Friday, April 30.

The exhibition includes 45 photographs made during a 28-year period, all of which celebrate the Gordo, Ala., folk art environment known as Ma’Cille’s Museum of Miscellanea. The purpose of the exhibition is to present images by photographers who were inspired by and responded to Lucille House’s eccentric and creative vision.

The photographic exhibition is co-sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the Kentuck Museum Association and features 14 photographers from California, Texas, New York, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio and Mississippi. Eight of the featured photographers are UA art department graduates.

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held Friday, April 30, from 6-8 p.m. in the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art, 103 Garland Hall. The exhibition will run through June 18.

Funding support for the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art comes from the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday. For further information, contact the gallery at 205/348-1891.
