TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Jaketra Bryant, come on down, you’re the next contestant
on “The Price is Right!”
University of Alabama student Jaketra Bryant heard these exciting words when she
was recently selected as a contestant on the hit game show “The Price is Right.”
Bryant, who is a senior biology major from Birmingham (zip code 35217) and a 2000 graduate
of Tarrant High School, won more than $23,000 worth of prizes on the show.
Bryant said that she decided to try her luck out on “The Price is Right,”
after talking with a friend from Auburn who had recently won merchandise on the show.
“I just thought it would be fun, and figured I didn’t have anything to
lose,” Bryant said.
Bryant said the actual process for going on the show is very long, but well worth
it. She said that in order to secure your place on the show you need to order tickets
online six months in advance. Once you receive your tickets, you report to the studio
at 6 a.m. and don’t leave until 4 p.m. Bryant said show personnel first went
through a series of interviews with all 350 contestants asking general questions to
see who would be a good contestant.

“I was very nervous during the pre-show interview, so I just talked about school
and Alabama football,” Bryant said.
After three bids, Bryant won the chance to go on and compete for more prizes and
meet “The Price is Right” host Bob Barker. Her big win came when she played
the “Line ‘em Up,” game with a 2004 Jeep Wrangler as the grand prize.
The idea of the game was to guess the price of the car by sliding the right numbers
into place. In this game she won a pair of lamps, a flatware set, a designer picture
frame and the Jeep. Bryant will receive her prizes in approximately six weeks.
After the show, Bryant, her best friend LaShondra Jones, and Jones’ aunt finished
out their spring break week by shopping and visiting famous California landmarks.
“I am glad that I decided to go on the show because it was a lot of fun and
a great experience. This was my first time in California and I could not have asked
for a better spring break,” Bryant said.
“The Price is Right” episode with Bryant aired Tuesday, April 20.
