TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Student Recreation Center (SRC) will
host a grand opening Monday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. in the main atrium of the expanded
and renovated center.
The expanded SRC includes two multi-use gyms, nine multi-purpose courts, free weight
machines, 1/8 mile jogging track, extensive cardio area, locker rooms for men and
women, indoor swimming pool, dry and steam saunas, outdoor pool complex, 12 lighted
tennis courts, four aerobics rooms, eight racquetball courts and squash court all
encompassing over 200,000 square feet. Additionally, a climbing wall is due for installation
at the SRC during the semester.
Events commemorating the completed expansion and grand opening will be held at the
SRC, located on campus at 401 5th St., during the week. Scheduled activities include:
Monday, Aug. 30
10 a.m. -- Dedication of building/ribbon cutting ceremony in main atrium
Tuesday, Aug. 31
4-7 p.m. -- Grand opening festivities highlighting University Recreation programs
sponsored by Coca-Cola
4-6 p.m. -- 100.5 Radio live remote sponsored by Coca-Cola
Tours of SRC on the top of the hour at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. -- meet at the front desk in
the main atrium
Fitness:
4:30, 5:30 p.m. -- Weight room orientation
6-7 p.m. -- Body composition analysis in Fitness Testing Lab
Intramural Sports:
6-7 p.m. -- Introduction of new sport to Intramural Sports calendar --
indoor soccer in the new MAC (multi-activity center) in the north gymnasium
Outdoor Recreation:
6:15 p.m. -- Canoe clinic at indoor pool
Sport Clubs:
4-7 p.m. -- Meet the club presidents in the main atrium
Wednesday, Sept. 1
4-7 p.m. -- Grand opening festivities highlighting University Recreation programs
4-6 p.m. -- WVUA 90.7 live remote
Tours of SRC on the top of the hour at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. Meet at the front desk in
the main atrium
