BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – As voters gear up for November’s
national elections, law students at The University of Alabama are
launching a campaign to make sure voters know their rights and responsibilities
when they go to the polls.
American Bar Association President Dennis W. Archer will join UA
Law School Dean Kenneth Randall, a Birmingham community leader involved
in the struggle for voter rights, and a law school student to announce
the project. Students are organizing to distribute Voter Rights
and Responsibilities cards developed by the ABA, and to register
new voters. The project is timed to commemorate the 40th anniversary
of events that led up to the 1965 Voter Rights Act in Alabama.
