TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Coordinating
Council for Student Organizations (CCSO) is proud to announce
that the Renewed Alliance for Cultural Education (RACE) has been
named the CCSO Student Organization of the Month for January.
RACE is a special interest organization that is comprised of 85
members. The organization’s main objectives are to foster
understanding and appreciation for various cultures, traditions,
and histories on and off campus, promote unity among UA students,
and to serve as a resource for the development of a multicultural
center.
The CCSO chose RACE as the organization of the month based on
the activities and achievements that the organization has accomplished
on campus, as well as throughout the Tuscaloosa community.
Recently RACE sponsored a Forum on Healthy Relationships to celebrate
African-American Heritage Month, along with hosting a Hip-Hop Conference
to promote cultural diversity awareness. The RACE organization has
also worked on creating relationships with other college diversity
programs, including the Holmes Diversity Center at Mississippi State
University.
The main purpose of the CCSO is to provide support for all 250
student organizations as well as UA students. The CCSO serves as
the coordinating body for all student organizations by providing
a means of membership recruitment, publicity opportunities, and
acknowledgement through events like Get-On-Board Day, the Student
Organization Banquet and the Officer Transition Workshop.
