TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Col. Robert L. Gambrell Jr., commander of Air
Force ROTC (AFROTC) Detachment 10 at The University of Alabama,
has announced two AFROTC in-college scholarship recipients.
The recipients are:
- Jeff Burns (two-year scholarship) of Birmingham (zip code 35242)
and
- Michael Vins (three-year scholarship) of Huntsville.
An AFROTC scholarship generally covers the cost of full tuition,
textbooks, and laboratory fees. It also provides a monthly $250-$400
non-taxable allowance throughout the academic year.
After graduation, these students will be commissioned as second
lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force to pursue various careers that
include: flying, intelligence, security forces, aircraft maintenance,
personnel, transportation, engineering, contracting, finance, medical
services, communications and space operations.
Gambrell emphasized the significance of the students’ achievement
since the competition for these scholarships is intense. AFROTC
also awards several scholarships each year to highly-qualified high
school seniors.
