UA's Alabama Museum of Natural History to Host 'Sheep to Shawl'

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Discover the historic technique of weaving raw wool into refined items during the “Sheep to Shawl” event to be held Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in The University of Alabama’s Smith Hall.

Museum naturalists and demonstrators from the West Alabama Fiber Guild will sheer a sheep on site, prepare its fleece for spinning into yarn and make a shawl for raffle. Enjoy old-fashioned games, stories, songs and crafts throughout the day.

Sponsored by UA's Alabama Museum of Natural History, cost is $1 for children and seniors, $2 for adults. Raffle tickets for a finished shawl will be sold for $5. Raffle tickets will be available in advance or the day of the event. For more information, contact Judy Everett at 348-7550 or museum.programs@ua.edu.
