TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Former University of Alabama All-American and Baltimore Ravens
executive Ozzie Newsome will return to Tuscaloosa June 18-19 as the honorary chair
of the fourth annual Bridge Builder Celebrity Golf Classic, scheduled for the Ol’
Colony Golf Course.
Proceeds from the tournament, sponsored by the Alpha Tau chapter of Omega Psi Phi
fraternity, benefit The First Tee of Tuscaloosa – a program designed to introduce
disadvantaged youth to golf – the Benjamin Barnes YMCA of Tuscaloosa, and local
scholarships.
Newsome, who made history in 2003 by becoming the first black general manager in the
NFL, was recently named the Walter Camp NFL “Man of the Year” for his commitment
to public service. He is credited with putting together the Baltimore Ravens team that
dominated Super Bowl XXXV.
“The University of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa community and the fraternity have
played a major role in my success,” Newsome said. “I am very fortunate
that God keeps providing me with opportunities to give back.”

are proud of his tremendous personal success and the fact that he has remained committed
to helping his university and others,” said UA President Robert E. Witt.
Celebrity participants scheduled include former Alabama players Johnny Davis, Cornelius
Bennett, Lamonde Russell, Chris Robinette, Wendell Hudson, Kerry Goode and Leon Douglas.
Other celebrity participants include UA Athletics Director Mal Moore, former Cleveland
Browns All-Pro Hanford Dixon, the national president of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
George Grace, and NBC13 anchors Mike Moore, Jim Dunaway and Rob Carlin.
Pre-tournament events are Friday, June 18, with the tournament scheduled for Saturday,
June 19. Tickets to the weekend of events are $95 and include green fees, lunch and
admission to the reception with Ozzie Newsome and Friends on Friday evening at the
President’s Pavilion on The University of Alabama campus.
