TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Chapter of Order of Omega national Greek
honor society recognized top students of 2003-2004 for their academic achievement and
leadership.
UA students who recently received honors in the UA Chapter of Order of Omega included:
Outstanding Freshmen – Blake Barnes of Tuscaloosa, a member of Theta Chi fraternity;
Amanda Smith of Trussville, a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority; Anna Smith of Tuscaloosa,
a member of Chi Omega sorority; Sarah Kate Sullivan of Birmingham (35213), a member
of Kappa Delta sorority.
Outstanding Sophomore – Lauren Elliott of West Memphis, Ark., a member of Alpha
Delta Pi sorority; John Griffin of Trussville, a member of Sigma Chi fraternity; Buddy
Handey of Montgomery, a member of Theta Chi fraternity; Boris Zilberman of Madison,
Wis., a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
Outstanding Junior – Lucas Elgie of Snellville, Ga., a member of Theta Chi
fraternity; Alise Holt of Newnan, Ga., a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority; Chequetta
Moore of Tuskegee, a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority; Anna Walley of Albertville,
a member of Delta Zeta sorority.
Thomas Govan of Baton Rouge, a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, was awarded
the Outstanding Greek Male award. Mary Lauren Griffin of Birmingham (35242), a member
of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, was awarded the Outstanding Greek Female award. Spencer
Akin of Birmingham (35216), a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, was awarded the Outstanding
Fraternity President award. Carey Cannell of Memphis, a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority,
was awarded the Outstanding Sorority President award.
Emily Jamison of Tuscaloosa was awarded the Outstanding Sorority Adviser for Chi
Omega sorority. Tommy Davis of Tuscaloosa was awarded the Rusty Quarles Outstanding
Fraternity Adviser award for Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Phi Kappa Psi fraternity was awarded the Most Improved Fraternity, and Delta Zeta
sorority received the Most Improved Sorority. Theta Chi fraternity was awarded Outstanding
Fraternity and Chi Omega sorority was awarded Outstanding Sorority. Alpha Tau Omega
was awarded the John L. Blackburn Academic Excellence Award presented by IFC.
Alise Holt of Newnan, Ga., was awarded the Dr. Kathleen Powers Cramer Award presented
by Panhellenic. Mary Temple was awarded the Clara Trawick Outstanding House Director
Award presented by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority for Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Gamma Phi
Beta sorority was awarded the Pi Kappa Alpha Award for Greek Relations. Corinne Mixon
of Tallahassee, Fla., a member of Chi Omega sorority, was awarded the Richard B. Funk
Scholarship presented by Order of Omega.
Greek Week 2004 fund raising included:
- $5,000 donated to DCH Latino Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening
- $5,000 donated to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham
- $1,000 donated to Relay for Life in honor of Alpha Tau Omega
- $1,000 donated to Delta Zeta Foundation in honor of Delta Zeta
- Alpha Tau Omega and Delta Zeta were named Greek Week winners.
Greek Links 2003-2004 fund raising included:
- $25,000 donated to Kid One Transport
- $19,000 donated to Literacy Council of Central Alabama
- $3,000 donated to UA for support of scholarships
- Theta Chi and Kappa Kappa Gamma were the top fund-raisers.
Panhellenic Scholarship Winners for fall 2003 included:
- Overall Scholarship, Alpha Chi Omega
- New Member Scholarship, Chi Omega
- Most Improved Scholarship, Delta Delta Delta.
