Ala. -- The University of Alabama Capstone
International Center will hold events for International Education Week (IEW) Monday,
Nov. 15-Friday, Nov. 19.
IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and worldwide
exchange. This effort aims to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global
environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences
in the United States.
The following is a list of events to be held at the Capstone during IEW 2004:
Monday, November 15
- International Education Week Opening Reception, PROC Consul General's
Presentation of 1000 Books. Smith Hall, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Religion in Culture Lecture Series, "A Region
of Many Faiths: Discovering Ancient Samaria Through Texts and Digs," by
Jürgen Zangenberg of Bergische Universitä, Wuppertal, Germany. Forum, Ferguson
Center, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Reception will follow lecture and discussion.
November 15-19
- Five Films-Five Continents-Five Nights; Nov 15 and 16, "Osama" at
Ferguson Theater; Nov 17, 18, 19, French, Chinese, Indian movies at ten Hoor Hall.
Movies are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

- "Visit Japan" Exhibit, Ferguson Center, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 16
- Overseas Study: "Tales From Students Who’ve Been There," 360
Ferguson Center, 12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
- International Student Reception, Gorgas
Library (2nd floor), 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The University Libraries cordially invites
you to an Open House honoring UA international students and celebrating International
Education Week. An event for the entire UA community. Please join us! Refreshments
will be served.
- "International Friends," ELI students
visit Flatwoods Elementary School.
Wednesday, November 17
- Tea Ceremony for the Birmingham Ikebana Society Birmingham Botanical
Gardens, 10:00 a.m.-noon.
- "World Bazaar," Ferguson
Center, 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., sponsored by the International Student Association
(ISA). Held during International Education Week, November 15-19, 2004, this event
celebrates our commitment to international education. The carnival-like set up has
two components; "The World Bazaar", where students exhibit their "Portraits
of" a country of their choice, and "International Alley," where various
international organizations exhibit and inform students of the multitude of international
opportunities available to them.
Thursday, November 18
- Fulbright Stories and Advice, 313 Ferguson Center, 3:30 p.m.-4:30
p.m. Capstone International Center cordially invites all faculty to learn about
the variety of Fulbright opportunities available to them from "colleagues who have
made the Fulbright difference". Light refreshments will be served.
Friday, November 19
- International Music Concert performed by the Alabama Chamber
Singers, Moody Music Building, Recital Hall, 7:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m. Followed by "Taste
of Korea" Reception.
- Coffee Hour, sponsored by Capstone
International Center, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 121 B. B. Comer Hall. Light refreshments
will be served.
- "A Taste of Japan," 121 B.B. Comer
Hall, 3:30 p.m., sponsored by Japan Culture & Information Center.
