TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – New York artist Linda Francis will have an exhibit in the Sarah
Moody Gallery of Art from Nov. 19 – Dec. 19. Her visit at The University of
Alabama will begin with a lecture event at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in 205 Smith Hall, followed
by an exhibit opening reception from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in the gallery.
Her large-scale chalk drawings and paintings showcase her interest in galaxies, scientific
systems, mathematics and physics. Francis’ works have been called seductive and intelligent.
Career awards for Francis include a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts,
a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and a Pratt Institute Faculty Grant. Her
work is in the collections of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark; Massachusetts
Institute of Technology; and Philip Morris.
Funding for the gallery is provided by the department of art and the College of Arts & Sciences
at The University of Alabama. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
