TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Step into the parlor of the Alabama
Museum of Natural History on The University of Alabama campus to visit the creepy,
crawly collections. See giant bugs, and visit the kid’s camp to taste, touch and
hear the tricky, tickly creatures of the night. The hands-on exhibit for kids will
feature items from the Museum collections and will be on display until Oct. 30.
“We want to provide kids with an opportunity to have fun while learning about science,” said
Jan Mize, project coordinator. “I think visitors will be fascinated by the insect
displays from the Museum collections, but what I really think the kids will like are
the giant ants and scorpion.”
To see crawly critters down under, join Museum experts for an adventure caving trip
Oct. 13, to Bear Creek, where spelunkers will also see water sculpted stone and calcite
cave formations in the underground hidden chambers. To register, phone 205/348-7550
or e-mail museum.programs@ua.edu. Other
October day trips include canoeing on Oct. 11, and fossil collecting on Oct. 12.
UA’s Alabama Museum of Natural History is located in Smith Hall on 6th Avenue near
the Quad of The University of Alabama campus. The hours of operation are Tuesday through
Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children
and seniors. To see a complete list of upcoming activities and events visit the website
