TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A new academic scholarship for freshmen entering The University
of Alabama has been established to honor the memory of a Batesville, Miss. alumnus.
The family of the late Henry “Hank” Cocke Holmes established the scholarship
in memory of Holmes, a 1977 graduate of The University of Alabama. Following graduation
from South Panola High School, Holmes attended UA where he earned a bachelor of arts
degree in political science. A lifelong Alabama fan and devoted UA alumnus, Holmes
died on Aug. 24, 2001.
Future students receiving The Henry Hank Cocke Holmes Endowed Scholarship in the
College of Arts and Sciences, established with $20,000 in gifts to UA, will be entering
freshmen from the state of Mississippi with grade point averages of 3.3 or higher.
Those wishing to honor Holmes’ memory and to assist UA students are encouraged
to contribute to the scholarship fund.
