Henry 'Hank' Cocke Holmes Scholarship Established for UA Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A new academic scholarship for freshmen entering The University of Alabama has been established to honor the memory of a Batesville, Miss. alumnus.

The family of the late Henry “Hank” Cocke Holmes established the scholarship in memory of Holmes, a 1977 graduate of The University of Alabama. Following graduation from South Panola High School, Holmes attended UA where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science. A lifelong Alabama fan and devoted UA alumnus, Holmes died on Aug. 24, 2001.

Future students receiving The Henry Hank Cocke Holmes Endowed Scholarship in the College of Arts and Sciences, established with $20,000 in gifts to UA, will be entering freshmen from the state of Mississippi with grade point averages of 3.3 or higher. Those wishing to honor Holmes’ memory and to assist UA students are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship fund.

For information on applying for the scholarship, potential applicants should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For information on how to contribute to the scholarship fund, contact the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama, Box 870268, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35487.
