TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama student Amanda Kaye
McMillan of Monroeville was selected for the U.S. Department of
Education Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Program that will be
held June 13-Aug. 5.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Program is a unique summer
internship experience at the U.S. Department of Education. Up to
10 outstanding undergraduate or graduate students with an interest
in education policy or public policy and administration were selected
to participate in the program.
“I am very excited about having been selected as one of
the Department of Education's 2005 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars,” McMillan
said. “My career goal is to become an attorney specializing
in education law, so I am definitely looking forward to the opportunity
to learn more about issues concerning our nation's educational
system.”
Selected students will receive temporary federal appointments
and they will be assigned to offices in the department’s
headquarters in Washington, D.C. Scholars will assist with a variety
of projects related to critical education programs and initiatives,
analysis, policy development, and legal or other work designed
to provide developmental experiences and exposure to government
and public policy in a cabinet-level department.
