TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- For the football fans who prefer to soak up
the air conditioning on game days, lectures on today’s hottest
research topics, as presented by some of UA’s top faculty
experts, will be given in The University of Alabama Bryant Conference
Center this football season.
Beginning two hours before kickoff of select home football games,
UA will offer “Game Day University” where UA professors
and faculty will give presentations ranging from ethics in the
business world to the music that has helped define generations.
This event is sponsored by the Bryant Conference Center and the
UA Colleges of Continuing
Studies, Arts and Sciences, Commerce
and Business Administration, and Human
Environmental Sciences.
The Bryant Conference Center is located at 240 Bryant Drive, next
door to the Bryant Museum.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, before the Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee
State game -- Lisa McKinney, C&BA lecturer in accounting, will
present “Business Ethics and Corporate Governance in Today's
Classroom Environment.” McKinney is a certified public accountant
and is a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs, the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Society of Women
Accountants. Her lecture will discuss ethical dilemmas in the contemporary
business environment and a review of what instructors are including
in their classroom curriculum and how it will help students in
future jobs.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, before the Alabama vs. Florida game -- Debra
Morrison, director of the coordinated program in human dietetics
in the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences, will present “Obesity
DEFENSE-Punt the Pounds!” Morrison, a registered dietician
with expertise in medical nutrition therapy, has been a member
of the UA faculty for 10 years. In this interactive session, Morrison
will present healthy and effective eating habits for lifelong weight
management and risk reduction for diseases such as high blood pressure
and diabetes.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, before the Alabama vs. LSU game -- Dr. Jim
Salem, professor and chair of the department of American
Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, will present “Rock ’n’ Roll
and the Beat Goes On.” Salem has published plays, songs,
articles and essays, and is the author of 18 books, including several
reference books on drama in America. His presentation will focus
on the music of young America from 1950s rhythm-and-blues, through
Elvis and the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen.
The lectures are offered at no cost, reservations are not needed,
and refreshments will be served.
