TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Frank Uryasz, former NCAA “Steroid
Czar” and founder and president of the National Center for
Drug Free Sport, will present “Fact and Fiction: Steroids,
Nutrional Supplements and the Evolution to Drug-Free Sport” Monday,
Feb. 28 at 6 p.m., in 223 Little Hall on The University of Alabama
campus.
The National Center for Drug Free Sport, located in Kansas City,
Mo., counts among its clients the National Football League, the
NCAA and AAU Power lifting.
The lecture is part of the Orman-Harris lecture series, sponsored
by the UA College of Human Environmental
Sciences. It is free and
open to the general public.
While with the NCAA, Uryasz established their national drug-testing
program and is currently the NCAA’s expert speaker on the
topics of steroid use and drug testing. He is a former member of
the U.S. Olympic Committee’s anti-doping committee and has
testified at recent Senate hearings regarding Ephedra.
The Orman-Harris Lecture was established by the late Mildred Brown
Davis to promote the professional development of The College of
Human Environmental Sciences faculty and to enrich the quality
of its academic programs. In the late 1940s, Davis received her
graduate degree from the College and in 1981 was recognized as
one of its outstanding graduates. Davis asked that the lectureship
honor the memory of two distinguished educators and professionals,
Elizabeth Carmichael Orman and Agnes Ellen Harris.
