TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will host a
regional Science Olympiad competition for middle and high school
students on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 9 a.m.
More than 500 students will participate in events held on UA’s
campus. Some of the events scheduled are bridge building, dynamic
planet, sounds of music, mission possible, storm the castle and
robot ramble.
The outdoor events, such as the bottle rocket launch, will take
place on Woods Quad and the main Quad. Several science lab competitions,
including chemistry and cell biology, will also take place during
the day.
UA’s College of Engineering is
coordinating the competition with the College
of Arts and Sciences. The events will conclude with an awards
presentation at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Center ballroom.
Area schools participating in this year’s event include
Carver Magnet School, Clay Chalkville High School, Curry High School,
Gresham Middle School, Hamilton High School, Hewitt-Trussville
Middle School, Hewitt-Trussville High School, Hillcrest High School,
Holy Spirit Catholic High School, Hoover High School, Jefferson
County International Baccalaureate, John Carroll Catholic High
School, Kinterbish Junior High School, Meek High School, Minor
High School, Mortimer Jordan High School, Muscle Shoals High School,
Oak Grove High School, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School,
Pelham High School, Pleasant Grove High School, Prattville Junior
High School, Riverchase Middle School, Shades Valley High School,
Simmons Middle School, Spain Park High School, Tuscaloosa County
High School and West Alabama Prep.
