TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Women’s
Resource Center is holding several events open to the public
during March.
The WRC Brown Bag Film and Lecture Series will feature “Writing
Your Life Story,” with UA faculty member Ana Schuber on March
3 at noon in 360 Ferguson Center. Schuber will teach the importance
of recording key events in life, as well as provide instruction
on how to begin.
The series will continue on March 8 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson
Theater featuring University Presbyterian Church Rev. Sandy Winter.
Winter will introduce the film “Silence Unbroken,” a
documentary on the suffering of the Korean “comfort women.” Winter
wrote her dissertation on the topic and she will lead a discussion
following the movie.
For more information or to pre-register for the series, contact vjohnson1@sa.ua.edu or
call the WRC at 205/348-5040.
Also, the WRC EveryWoman Book Club will meet to discuss “You
Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down” by Alice Walker on March
15 at 6 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Starbucks (located on the 2nd
floor).
“You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down” is a collection
of unrelated short stories that all feature a woman as a protagonist.
A natural evolution from the much-acclaimed short story collection “In
Love & in Trouble,” these 14 provocative and often humorous
stories show women often oppressed but not defeated.
Books for future discussion will be decided upon at the meeting.
