TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Rising student leaders from across Alabama
will have the opportunity to build their skills in the Capstone
Leadership Assembly for Student Success on Saturday, Feb. 5, at
The University of Alabama.
The purpose of the CLASS conference is to develop leadership
qualities in Alabama high school and college students. Participants
will attend workshops and lectures to learn the importance of personal
development. More than 300 students participated in last year’s
conference.
“This conference is useful to high school and college students
because it provides an avenue to develop and enhance critical skills
needed for later in life,” said Christina Carden, UA Student
Government Association vice president of academic affairs.
Corrie Harris, UA assistant dean of students, oversees the Office
of Leadership Development, one of the campus agencies behind the
event. “The CLASS conference is a great way for students
from around the state to gather and hear from experts as well as
discuss ideas about leadership with each other,” Harris said.
“Here they will have an opportunity not only to discover
and enhance their own strengths, but also identify areas for growth
that will make them more effective leaders in the future. Ultimately,
our hope is that participants will walk away with a broader concept
of who leaders are and how they become successful,” she added.
Student leaders will attend three different sessions of their
choosing geared toward topics including time management, mentoring,
interviewing skills, and ethics. A keynote speaker and a drama
presentation will accompany lunch.
The SGA, Coordinating Council of Student Organizations, and the
Office of Leadership Development arranged the conference.
