TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Coordinating
Council for Student Organizations recently held the 19th
Annual Student Organization Awards Banquet on campus to recognize
outstanding contributions of student organizations, members,
officers and advisers.
CCSO recognized the 2004-2005 Executive Board, including: Grace
Shelby of Huntsville, president; Jeanna Crocker of Hamilton, Tenn.,
vice president of administrative affairs; J.W. Snider of Madison,
Miss., organizations chair; Mellie Basset of Troy, organizations
co-chair; Christian Smith of Trussville, leadership chair; and
Amanda Barone of Atlanta, Ga., publicity chair.
The incoming 2005-2006 CCSO Executive Board was introduced, including:
Christian Smith of Trussville, president; Ashley McCruter of Birmingham
(35243), vice president of administrative affairs; Jenae Staples
of Fairfield, organizations chair; Meredith Corzine of Dublin,
Ohio, leadership chair; and Gabe Sherard of Birmingham (35244),
publicity chair. The upcoming executive board for the 2005-2006
academic year will also include vice chairs for each position.
The following people were awarded the Most Active Member distinction
in their respective categories: Academic Organization, Don Dukemineer
of Huntsville for the Alabama Student Society for Communication
Arts; Coordinating Body, Kori Mosakowski of Weaver for the Community
Service Center; Professional Organization, Mary Kathryn Sewell
of Helena for the Society of
Women Engineers; Religious Organization, Bess Copeland of Cullman
for the Wesley Foundation; University-Wide Honorary, Laura Neergaard
of Olive Branch, Miss., for the Anderson
Society; Special Interest Organizations, Krista Jordan of Tuscaloosa
for the Social Worker’s Association for Cultural Awareness;
Service Organization, Robert Boylan of Mountain Brook for Circle
K.
The following people were awarded the Outstanding Officer/Leader
recognition in their respective categories: Academic Organization,
Rachel Duncan of Pelham for the College of Arts and Sciences Ambassadors;
Coordinating Body, Barbra Torgusen of Northport for the Graduate
Student Association; Professional Organization, Andrew Coley of
Huntsville for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Religious,
Social/Fraternal Organization, Ali Jones of Montgomery for Phi
Mu Sorority; University-Wide Honorary, Leah Hardin of Huntsville
for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars; Service Organization,
Kathryn Tuggle of Bessemer for the Honors College Ambassadors;
Departmental Honorary, Morgan Clark of Silverhill for Alpha Pi
Mu.
The following people were awarded the Outstanding Adviser distinction
in their respective categories: Academic Organization, Susan Halliday
for the College of Arts and
Sciences Ambassadors; Coordinating Body, Tim Hebson for the Student
Government Association; Departmental Honorary, Dr. Paul Ray
for Alpha
Pi Mu; Professional Organization, Dr. Beth Todd for ASME and
SWE; Religious Organization, Marshall Brown for the Reformed
University Fellowship; Social/Fraternal, Dr. Patricia Bauch
for Delta XI Phi Multicultural
Sorority Inc.; Special Interest Organization, Dr. Cassandra
Simon for the Social Worker’s Association for Cultural Awareness;

The following organizations were given the Most Creative Program
award in their respective categories: Academic Organization, Tsunami
Relief fund raiser by the New
College Student Council; Coordinating Body, “UP All Night” by University
Programs; Professional Organization, “Human Powered Vehicle
Competition” by the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers; Religious Organization, “Welcome
Week” by the Wesley
Foundation.
The following organizations were recognized as the Outstanding
Organization in their respective categories: Academic Organization,
Commerce Associates; Coordinating Body, C&IS Student Executive
Council; Departmental Honorary, Alpha Pi Mu; Professional Organization,
Society of Women Engineers; Recreational Organization, Mark’s
Madness; Religious Organization, Wesley Foundation; Service Organization,
Crimson Kaydettes; Special-Interest, Social Worker’s Association
for Cultural Awareness; University-Wide Honorary, National Society
for Collegiate Scholars.
This year’s overall Most Creative Program was awarded to Circle
K for “Pet Therapy.” The Hispanic Student Association
was presented with the Outstanding New Organization award for
their contributions on campus and in the Tuscaloosa community.
The Special Commitment Award went to Katie Greer of Wilmer for
all of her hard work with the Student
Alumni Association. The award for Outstanding New Adviser
was presented to Corrie Harris for her work with the LEAD Team
and Freshman Forum. The John L. Blackburn Award for Outstanding
Adviser was given to Stacy Jones for her dedication to numerous
UA organizations including CCSO, NSCS, AAA, and NPHC. The overall
Outstanding Organization for 2004-2005 was awarded to the Wesley
Foundation.
Mellie Basset of Tuscaloosa was named Outstanding CCSO member.
The new Mosaic Multiculturalism Achievement Award was presented
to Chad Hullet of Birmingham (35215) from the NAACP for Outstanding
Officer/ Leader and to the African-American
Association for Outstanding Organization. The Will Byington
Award was awarded to Zac Riddle of Trussville for exemplifying
the characteristics of an extraordinary leader on the UA campus.
