TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lacie J. Bartholomew, a senior at Fayette
County High School, has been selected to receive the 2005-2006
R.C. Cobb Scholarship. The selection was made by the Cobb family.
The R.C. Cobb Scholarship, given by the Culverhouse
College of Commerce and Business Administration at The University
of Alabama, is given to honor the memory of R.C. Cobb. The scholarship
award covers full tuition, books, housing and meals for four
years. The Cobb Scholarship is also one of only four full scholarships
awarded to freshmen by the Culverhouse College of Commerce.
“I am just tickled that she got it,” said Radford
Hester, principal of Fayette High School. “I am glad that
Lacie is getting the opportunity to further her education at The
University of Alabama.”
R.C. Cobb was a native of Fayette and a graduate of Fayette County
High School. His family established the scholarship in 1999. The
scholarship’s purpose is to perpetuate the legacy of R. C.
Cobb in the town he so dearly loved by giving deserving young men
and women the opportunity to advance themselves through a quality
education. Cobb opened his first movie theater in Fayette in 1948
and by the time he sold his business in 1997, he had built one
of the largest and most successful theater chains in the United
States.
Bartholomew, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society,
yearbook staff, student council and West Alabama Youth Leadership
Institute, is ranked third in the senior class. An active member
of Fayette First Baptist Church, Bartholomew has been recognized
in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” and
has been honored as an All American Scholar.
“Lacie is a top-rate, excellent person who is always willing
to help others,” added Hester. “As a principal you
wish you had 20 just like her.”
Only students who graduate from Fayette County High School are
eligible for the scholarship. Interested applicants should contact
their guidance counselor or submit a scholarship application which
may be obtained at www.scholarships.ua.edu.
All prospective applicants should complete an admissions application
by Dec. 1, 2005 and mail to 461 Alston Hall, Box 870223 Tuscaloosa,
