Bama Dining Supports Beat Auburn Beat Hunger

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama’s Bama Dining is supporting Beat Auburn Beat Hunger by matching monetary donations, up to $2,000, given by students at the registers of any Bama Dining location now through Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Students can make donations with their Action Card or cash and Bama Dining will use the money raised to purchase non-perishable food items to donate to Beat Auburn Beat Hunger and the West Alabama Food Bank.

The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight, which is jointly sponsored by the UA Community Service Center and the West Alabama Food Bank, is an annual service competition between the student bodies of UA and Auburn. The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight capitalizes on the rivalry that exists between the two institutions to include the state's citizens to help alleviate hunger. This year, donations will also benefit hurricane victims.

“Bama Dining is delighted to donate to the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger program. We feel that our efforts will be a huge part of this year's success. Bama Dining has decided to take monetary donations and purchase food with it simply because we can use our buying power with our food distributors to maximize the amount of food donated,” said Greta Davis, Bama Dining marketing manager, adding, “Besides, isn't food what we do best? This is our year! Let's Beat Auburn and Beat Hunger!"

Bama Dining locations include Ferguson Center Food Court, Fresh Food Co., Starbucks, and Freshens Smoothie Co. in the Ferguson Center; Einstein Brothers Bagels and Convenience to the 3rd Power in Riverside Residential Hall; the 24 Hour Diner in Paty Hall; Java City in Gorgas Library; Commons Dining and Buffalo Phil's in Burke Hall; and Blimpie and Julia's Market in Tutwiler Hall. The goal this year is to collect 100,000 pounds of food, an increase from the 67,708 pounds that UA collected last year.

For more information about donating to Beat Auburn Beat Hunger through Bama Dining, contact Greta Davis at 205/348-5698, davis-gretchen@aramark.com.

The last day to donate to the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger campaign is Thursday, Nov. 17.
