TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The food drive competition between The University
of Alabama and Auburn University ended Thursday, Nov. 17, with
Auburn University collecting 99,678 lbs. and UA collecting 62,014
lbs.
The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight, which is jointly sponsored
by the UA Community Service Center and the West Alabama Food Bank,
is an annual service competition between the student bodies of
UA and Auburn. The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight capitalizes
on the rivalry that exists between the two institutions to include
the state’s citizens to help alleviate hunger. This year,
donations will also benefit hurricane victims.
At UA, the winning student organizations included: 1st Place-Student
Government Association with 4,464 lbs., 2nd Place-Freshman Forum
with 2,520 lbs., and 3rd Place-Yell Crew with 2,500 lbs. The Greek
Division winners were Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity with 4, 917
lbs. and Delta Delta Delta Sorority with 3,605 lbs.
Wal-Mart on Skyland Blvd. was the community winner with 3,551
lbs. and Riverside was the residence hall winner with 218 lbs.
of food collected.
