UA Parents Association Donates $5,000 to Hurricane Relief Scholarship Fund

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Parents Association donated $5,000 to the UA Hurricane Relief Scholarship Fund, established by UA to assist students who have been impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

The UA Parents Association, a self-supporting organization, receives donations from parents of UA students, which it uses to coordinate Family Weekend, produce newsletters and support its 1-800 hotline. This semester, the association had money available to donate to the scholarship fund.

“We have a very generous parent foundation at the University,” said Brandi Lamon, assistant director for student affairs outreach. “The Parents Association is delighted to have received the donations and, in turn, be able to use some of that money to help students impacted by the hurricane.”

The Parents Association assists UA in recruiting students, enhances the quality of life of students by promoting educational and developmental opportunities, and provides parents with information and resources which contribute to the successful transition and retention of their student. Formed in 1993, it enables parents to both actively participate in the life of their student and to interact with, and lend support to, other parents.
