TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – “Unscripted,” the peer educational
theater troupe of The University of Alabama Women’s
Resource Center, will give an interactive performance about
sexual assault Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m. in 309 Ferguson Center.
“We use interactive theater and improvisation to present
important issues in a new way,” said UA Peer Education Programs
Coordinator Nicole Carroll. “I am eager to see where the
audience goes with the material because audience reaction and willingness
to participate truly shape each performance.”
A new program of the WRC, “Unscripted” uses an interactive
model of theater to tackle a diverse range of social issues including
violence against women, racism, heterosexism, and others. At various
points throughout their performances, the group will invite audience
members to engage in discussion about each scene and even step
in to replace the actors, breaking down the traditional boundaries
between performer and audience.
“Men Against Violence is excited to host this event,” said
UA Men’s Violence Prevention Coordinator Matthew Rombach. “After
witnessing their first performance, I am looking forward to seeing
how ‘Unscripted’ evolves and the innovative ways they
will educate our group and the rest of the campus.”
The performance is open to the entire UA community and will coincide
with a meeting of UA’s Men
Against Violence group. For more information, contact the WRC
