UA Students Awarded UDC Scholarships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Some 13 students at The University of Alabama have received scholarships from the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) for the fall 2005 semester.

The scholarships combined total is $9,600.

The recipients include: Katherine Allaway and Mary-Kelley McAllister of Tuscaloosa, Sarah Aycock of Madison, Maryanne Bruister of Butler, Kathleen McIntosh of Daphne, Collin Newberry of Huntsville, Shelley Pope and Jimmy Bryant of Thomasville, Michael Dillard of Pike Road, Ashley Dumas of Birmingham, Brittany Ingalls of Greenville, Christine Reynolds of Montgomery, and Natalie Walters of Jacksonville.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be a descendant of a Confederate soldier and be able to provide the soldier’s Confederate service records. All applicants must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and in order to continue receiving the scholarship they must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

All candidates must go through an interview with their local UDC chapter and obtain sponsorship from that chapter.
