Voices of Africa Vocal/Drum Ensemble to Perform at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center and Housing and Residential Communities will present “Voices of Africa,” a nationally acclaimed all-female a cappella and drum ensemble on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theater as part of African-American Heritage Month events.

Voices of Africa’s performances deliver powerful, soul-stirring messages to their audiences about their traditions as women of West African descent who dare to play drums. This will be their first show at UA.

In addition to their performance at the University, Voices of Africa will also appear on Shelton State’s Martin campus at 1:30 p.m. on Feb.16 to hold a lecture and abbreviated performance.

The event is co-sponsored by the UA Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Campus Programming Council, Healthy Campus, Office of Student Judicial Affairs, African-American Studies Department, Career Center and Ferguson Center.

Admission is free and audience members will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. More information is available online at http://wrc.ua.edu or at 205/348-5040.
