TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Philosopher Margret Grebowicz will present “On Sex, Poetry, and the Violability of Children: June Jordan and Political Philosophy” at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 in 140 Bidgood Hall on The University of Alabama campus. The lecture is hosted by the UA women’s studies department.

Grebowicz, assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Houston-Downtown, will present the work of African-American, feminist poet June Jordan in the context of some recent debates in contemporary European philosophy, particularly around theories of justice and the formation of political subjectivity. Grebowicz also will situate Jordan’s writings on sexual politics in her work on black English and literacy education.

The women’s studies program is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state.
