Area Students on Campus for Opening of First ‘Arts Outreach Exhibit’ at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Creative Campus arts initiative has collaborated with area K-12 art outreach programs to host the first “Arts Outreach Exhibit” Friday, Dec. 1 from 5-7 p.m. in the Art Student League Gallery in Woods Hall on campus.

At 6 p.m. there will be a string performance by visiting elementary school students. The exhibit will also showcase paintings, photography, music and creative writing, all done by student artists.

In addition to students, parents, teachers and school administrators are invited to the event.

“The goal of the ‘Arts Outreach Exhibit’ is to celebrate our local student artists while forming a center of collaboration with all of our UA arts outreach projects that go into the Tuscaloosa community,” said Bethany Collins, UA student and Creative Campus intern involved with the exhibit. “The exhibit is our first project to create a better artistic connection between University students and public schools,” she added.

The exhibit will be open the remainder of the fall semester.

The UA Creative Campus, Creative Community Initiative is an unprecedented student group that will focus on broadening the scope and deepening the experience of the arts and cultural opportunities on the UA campus and in the Tuscaloosa community. Five student-led departments have been established to accomplish this mission: Creative Campus, Creative Community, Creative Education, Creative Economy and Creative Leadership. Under the auspices of UA's Office of Academic Affairs, Creative Campus seeks to build synergy though collaboration.
