Native American Heritage Month Celebrated at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – November is Native American Heritage Month and The University of Alabama Crossroads Community Center has a variety of events planned to honor the many accomplishments, rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans.

UA students, faculty and staff and the community are welcome to attend the following events for 2007 Native American Heritage Month:

- A free concert on the UA Quad featuring Thunderlightening and Cloud Walkers, a Cherokee family drum and dance team whose dances include social, expedition and educational meaning, on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 3:30-5 p.m.(rain location is Ferguson Center Theater).

- A community conversation with Ronald “Firehawk” Headley, CEO and founder of NATIVE, on Monday, Nov. 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Crossroads TV lounge, 232 Ferguson Center. NATIVE is a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate, enhance and promote an understanding of the cultural and historical traditions and practices of Native Americans.

- A community conversation with the Kateri Circle of Birmingham, an intertribal group whose mission is to promote Native American spirituality within the Catholic Church while respecting diversity, on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Crossroads TV lounge, 232 Ferguson Center.
