TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Interfraternity Council won three awards recently at the annual Southeastern Interfraternity Conference awards banquet.

The IFC won awards for educational programming, recruitment and alumni development.

The educational programming award is given to the IFC that hosts educational programming for both active members and new members. UA’s IFC was recognized for its program titled “Tuesdays at 6.”

The program is held weekly and includes a guest speaker who talks about a variety of issues from academic success to alcohol and drug abuse.

Speakers included UA President Robert E. Witt, former Alabama defensive coordinator Joe Kines, and Dr. Lori Ebert who presented “Everything to Know about the Opposite Sex.”

The IFC was also recognized for the success of recruitment programming, which included a first-ever preview weekend for high school students interested in attending UA. In the fall, there was an 18 percent increase in new members with a new member class of nearly 800 students.

The University of Alabama, a student-centered research university, is in the midst of a planned, steady enrollment growth with a goal of reaching 28,000 students by 2010. This growth, which is positively impacting the campus and the state's economy, is in keeping with UA's vision to be the university of choice for the best and brightest students.
