TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The College of Arts and Sciences will host two free movie nights, in honor of Constitution Day, Sept. 17-18 at 7 p.m. in 208 Gordon Palmer Hall on The University of Alabama campus.

“All the President’s Men,” a film starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman that accurately presents the facts of the Watergate break-in and cover-up, through a compelling story, will be shown Sept. 17. “The Candidate,” an Oscar-winning film about a California lawyer urged to run against the seemingly unbeatable Republican incumbent in a senatorial race, will be shown Sept. 18. A short discussion about constitutional themes will follow each film.

“Since this is an election season, I thought these films would be interesting for the light they shed on the way our elections work,” said Dr. Joseph Smith, assistant professor in the department of political science. “Also, they are just great movies.”

Constitution Day celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, honors the legacy of the 39 men who signed the document, and gives citizens a chance to reflect on the laws it set in place.
