Lawmakers learn of autism needs, research, treatment

University of Alabama professor Laura Grofer Klinger had a unique opportunity Tuesday to present her wish list for improving autism research and treatment services. Klinger, director of UA’s Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Clinic and a member of a research team assessing the state’s autism needs, said it was a first for her to be able to talk to state legislators and university administration at one time…The legislative tour of UA’s Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Clinic and the Speech and Hearing Center’s preschool classroom on Tuesday pointed to the services offered and the need to expand programs…

UA lands four on All-SEC first team

The University of Alabama football team was well represented on the All-SEC Coaches’ Football Team, as the Crimson Tide landed four first-team selections and two second-team selections as announced by the league Tuesday. Sophomore offensive tackle Andre Smith, senior defensive end Wallace Gilberry, senior cornerback Simeon Castille and junior safety Rashad Johnson were voted to the first team while senior wide receiver D.J. Hall and junior offensive lineman Antoine Caldwell earned second-team honors…

Coca-Cola Scholars Help Sick Children

Freshmen at the University of Alabama brought a little Christmas cheer to sick children. Students bought gifts for youngsters in the neo-natal intensive care at DCH Medical Center. The group consists of Coca Cola scholars, students who are the first in their families to attend college.
