Millry student is one of four national prize winners

University of Alabama sophomore biology major, University Honors Program student and Caldwell Lab undergraduate researcher Kyle Lee of Millry has been named a 2008 recipient of the prestigious Benjamin Cummings Biology Prize.

Astronomer Triggers Public’s Online Search for Overlapping Galaxies

Each of the 500+ overlapping galaxies was discovered by a member of the public signed up to the galaxyzoo.org forum where armchair astronomers can compare notes on the images of galaxies they have seen and classified using the website. The search for overlapping galaxies was led by Dr. William Keel, professor of astronomy at The University of Alabama. Keel wrote on the forum asking people to look out for suitable systems.

Jefferson County paid millions more than Alabama did on $1 billion bond deal
Birmingham News: Dec. 21
Jefferson County and the state of Alabama each borrowed $1 billion for school construction and other capital projects by selling bonds. But the county's costs for its bond issue were four times greater than the state's. . . . Robert Brooks, a finance professor at the University of Alabama, said governments tend to get better deals when bond work is awarded through the bid process.
