The top five candidates with the most votes for this year's Homecoming queen ballot were announced in an e-mail Tuesday night by Carl Bacon, director of the Ferguson Center Student Union. Sophia Francillon, Kathleen Kelley, Michelle McGaha, Jessica Pugh and Kahdijiha Rowe were voted onto this year's Homecoming court. Homecoming queen will be announced Friday during the pep rally and will be crowned Saturday during halftime of the Homecoming game against Houston.

UA receives highway safety study grant

A University of Alabama research center has been awarded a $503,232 grant to provide a comprehensive look at safety on the state’s highways. The grant, awarded by Gov. Bob Riley, will enable the UA’s Critical Analysis Reporting Environment Research and Development Laboratory to continue its annual assessment of highway safety by compiling and analyzing highway safety data.

Grayson Glaze, the new director of the Alabama Center for Real Estate, said he will lead the center in new directions.
