Birmingham, Hoover area one of U.S. strongest

Council honors UA student

The Tuscaloosa City Council and Mayor Walter Maddox proclaimed the day to be India Williams Day in honor of her contributions to the Tuscaloosa area. Williams, a junior majoring in philosophy, international relations and political science through the University's New College, has received funding from the Blackburn Institute's Daniel Foundation Community Scholars Program in Birmingham to start a large community service project. The Good Shepherds' Project will be designed to bring together ministers of different faiths in the Tuscaloosa area and to unite denominationally different congregations to combat some of the issues facing the Tuscaloosa area…

Monday marked the 220th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, and the UA political science department celebrated Constitution Day on Sunday and Monday with showings of the films "Seven Days in May" and "Gideon's Trumpet."
