TUSCALOOSA, Ala.
- The Alabama Museum of Natural
History and The University of Alabama Arboretum
will host a St. Valentines Day dinner featuring a presentation
on antique roses, Feb. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Smith Hall, located
off 6th Avenue on the UA campus.
Horticulturist Jason Powell will discuss the bloom times, care, growth
styles, fragrance classes, and companion plants for antique roses
to create Grandmothers garden in your own yard.
Jason knows his plants, said Mary Jo Modica of the
UA Arboretum. He is also a gracious and wonderful speaker.
Dinner will be served in historic Smith Halls Grand Gallery
of ornate Corinthian columns below a majestic glass roof. The Gallery,
one of the most beautifully proportioned interiors on the UA campus-perhaps
in Alabama, houses exhibits of fossils, rocks, and minerals from
the Coal Age, Dinosaur Age, and Ice Age.
The cost is $35 per person and registration is open through Feb.

History are Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sun., 1-4:30 p.m.
Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children and seniors.
